Worked Examples
Match: Barcelona vs Valencia
Bet: Barcelona -0.25 at 1.94
Stake: £400
Your £400 is split: £200 on AH 0 (level ball) + £200 on AH -0.5.
| Barcelona result | AH 0 leg (£200) | AH -0.5 leg (£200) | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Win by 1+ goals | Win: £200 × 1.94 = £388 | Win: £200 × 1.94 = £388 | £776 total (+£376 profit) |
| Draw | Void: £200 returned | Loss: -£200 | £200 returned (-£200 net) |
| Valencia win | Loss: -£200 | Loss: -£200 | -£400 full loss |
A draw loses only half the stake — the AH 0 leg is refunded, the -0.5 leg loses.
Match: Inter Milan vs Empoli
Bet: Empoli +0.75 at 3.20
Stake: £200
Your £200 is split: £100 on AH +0.5 + £100 on AH +1.
| Empoli result | AH +0.5 leg (£100) | AH +1 leg (£100) | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Empoli win or draw | Win: £100 × 3.20 = £320 | Win: £100 × 3.20 = £320 | £640 total (+£440 profit) |
| Inter win by exactly 1 | Loss: -£100 | Void: £100 returned | £100 returned (-£100 net) |
| Inter win by 2+ | Loss: -£100 | Loss: -£100 | -£200 full loss |
A 1-goal Inter win half-losses: the +0.5 leg loses, the +1 leg voids (Inter won by exactly 1, matching the +1 handicap).
Understanding Asian Handicap Settlement Rules
The Asian handicap system uses half-goal increments to eliminate the draw as a possible settlement outcome on half-ball lines. Quarter-ball lines (0.25, 0.75, 1.25…) split stakes across two adjacent lines to create four possible outcomes instead of two.
Key rules that govern settlement for all lines:
- Own goals count. All goals in the 90-minute result (plus injury time) count, regardless of how they were scored.
- Extra time and penalties do not count for standard pre-match AH bets — settlement is on the 90-minute result only.
- Abandoned matches are voided by most Asian bookmakers if the official result is not declared within 12–24 hours.
- Decimal handicaps split stakes 50/50 across the two adjacent whole/half lines. A £300 bet on -0.25 is always £150 on 0 and £150 on -0.5.

What does "half win" mean in Asian handicap?
A half win occurs on quarter-ball handicaps (0.25, 0.75, 1.25…) when the bet partially wins. Your stake is split across two adjacent lines: one line wins in full and the other either loses or voids. A half win means you receive the full return on half your stake, with the other half returning zero profit. For example, £200 on -0.25 that half-wins returns £200 × odds on half the stake plus the other £100 refunded or lost, depending on the specific outcome.
Does this calculator work for Asian total goals bets?
Asian totals (over/under) use the same handicap maths — the goal margin input represents total goals scored vs the handicap line rather than goal difference. Set the handicap to your over/under line and the margin to total goals scored. A 2.75 over bet is calculated identically to an AH +2.75 bet, with the same split-stake quarter-ball logic.
How do I convert Asian (Malay/HK) odds to decimal before using this?
Use the Asian odds converter to convert Malay, Hong Kong, or Indonesian odds to decimal format first. The calculator uses decimal odds throughout. For reference: HK odds of 0.90 = decimal 1.90; positive Malay odds of 0.90 = decimal 1.90; negative Malay odds of -0.90 = decimal 1/(0.90) + 1 ≈ 2.11.
